Her Pupils

Her pupils set me
Back a lifetime,
Damn those eyes,
I’ve spent my days building
Dams to dry the river flow
When she cries,
I should have seen the signs
When she couldn’t look
Me into the windows
Of my soul,
Now we’re both sitting
Here with anemic hearts
Pumping in the cold,
As I glance into her moons
That blink ever so slow,
I find myself back in a trance
Trapped with nowhere to go
